Helpful Guidelines

Thank you for asking to have you child baptised. Before the child can be baptised the Church teaches that there should be a ‘well founded hope that the child will be brought up in the Catholic religion’. It is also required that those requesting Baptism for their child do so in a context of faith.baptism2

This is expressed through a life of prayer, regular attendance at Sunday Mass and being of real service and help to others.

Please don’t worry if you’ve been out of touch with the Church for some time; if your partner is not a Catholic; if you are a single parent or if you’re not sure about baptism.

We look forward to hearing from you and discussing with you any action needed on your part to prepare for the baptism. Please Note – It is the usual practice to have two Godparents who must be over 16 years of age.

At least one Godparent needs to be someone who practices their Catholic faith.

Please contact the Parish Priest who will give you an Application Form for Baptismal Preparation. Upon receipt of the application form the priest will then contact you to arrange a meeting. At the meeting the priest will explain everything that you need to do to prepare for your child’s Baptism.
