Youth Council – Project for 2015
As a parish we are very keen to establish a Youth Council. We feel this is a vital link in engaging with young people and finding out their views. We would like to develop a programme of activities based on their ideas and try to encourage them to be more fully involved in parish life – prayerfully and socially. We would like to enthuse our young people and nurture their relationship with God. If anyone is interested in helping to get this initiative started or needs more information, please contact members of the Parish Pastoral Council or Fr Jeff.
Activities Parish Youth Are Involved In
In September 2014, two young people from our parishes attended the YMT information day to help prepare for Youth Sunday. They were inspired and full of great ideas. During a ‘pizza night’ and discussion afterwards, our young people came up with some brilliant ideas tailored around what they would like to see and do. Youth Sunday was amazing! The whole parish commented on how enjoyable the Mass was and how inspired they were to see our young people take a fuller part in liturgy and see them really enjoy themselves. From solo singers to excellent artwork and the Happy Song – God was truly worshipped. After Mass, parishioners were invited to tea and homemade cake. Everyone had such a great time. Here’s to Youth Sunday 2015! There is so much to build upon.
During Advent 2014, our young people helped to celebrate a Holy Hour for the parishes which was held at Immaculate Heart Church, Lobley Hill. We reflected upon the events leading up to the Christmas story through the eyes of Mary. Children from the Primary Schools and youth from our Secondary School helped with the readings, art work and served refreshments afterwards. A similar event is planned on Palm Sunday with parishioners of all ages helping to plan and celebrate a special time of prayer, music and refreshments.
